2023 Middle School Summer Camp
July 17th - July 21st
The Child Language Lab Summer Camp is a week-long day camp for middle school students in the Philadelphia area that aims to teach students about linguistics and languages. Campers will explore interesting language phenomena while developing their problem-solving and critical thinking skills. The camp is hosted by the Child Language Lab at the University of Pennsylvania.
Campers will:
Be introduced to the field of Linguistics and gain insight to how we learn and use languages
Meet other Philadelphia middle school students and learn from Penn students
Collaborate with other students and develop problem-solving skills
Experience the world of research through stimulating lectures and hands-on activities with fellow campers
Understand the role that language plays in our everyday lives
Sample schedule
9:00-9:30 - Drop-off/Check-in
9:30-10:30 - Linguistics Lecture and Interactive Game
10:30-10:45 - Snack Break
10:45-12:00 - Guest Speaker Lecture (Penn Faculty/Grad)
12:00-1:30 - Lunch (provided by camp)
1:30-3:00 - Outdoor Activity (ex. visiting labs, etc.)
3:00-4:00 - Collaborative Group Project*/Pick Up
*Throughout the camp, students will be working on group projects, which they’ll present at the end of the week!
Please note: The camp is a day camp only. Campers are expected to be picked up and dropped off from the camp location on Penn's campus each day.

Rising 7th and 8th graders from the Philadelphia area and surrounding areas are eligible to apply!

Child Language Lab Summer Camp is free for all participants! Lunch and snacks will also be provided for campers.
